Gerard MacNamee

Gerard MacNamee is Chief Technology Officer with UK Broadband. UK Broadband is a new broadband Wireless venture of PCCW. PCCW is a global leader in broadband service innovation, the world’s largest IPTV operator and recently lauded by Morgan Stanley as a role model for other Telcos. As CTO his major goal is to exploit new generation wireless technologies to enable the broadband services that have proved so successful on the PC and TV systems to be delivered for a low cost flat rate to metropolitan wireless broadband devices.
Previously he has 20 years of experience at the forefront of wireless technology and business. After graduating with a BSc in Electronics from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, he work for Philips Research Labs where he pioneered some of the world’s first digital wireless systems. He worked on a cdma contender for the original GSM design contest and went on to form and lead a pan-European multi-company R&D team that conceived UMTS. He then joined Hutchison UK (subsequently known as Orange) where he worked on one of the world’s first 1800 MHz GSM roll outs. From here he joined Contactica (subsequently acquired by Arthur D Little) a consultancy company formed by senior managers of Orange and worked on numerous international projects on GSM network design, deployment and service innovation. Following his work on service innovation he founded Liquid Drop Ltd a provider of mobile messaging, couponing and payment services.
